As a biochemical engineer, Stan was attracted to Oleon as an ecological alternative to the petrochemical industry. He had worked in purchasing before, but this was his chance to contribute to a positive impact on the environment. Inge got to know Oleon at her previous job, where Oleon was one of her suppliers. They both decided to go for it, and the rest is history.
Category Manager Inge works in her element...
when overcoming a challenge together with the team.
“As a Category Manager, I’m responsible for the purchasing strategy of my category. I translate this strategy into programs, action plans, and targets. I’m also the global manager of my category, and I can assure you, there are lots of challenges crossing our paths. I love to take the lead in solving these, together with my team and other departments. We’re just like chemical elements: even though you’re only a small part of the solution, everyone contributes to the final result.”
when travelling around the world.
“I work in a very international setting, and I am in daily contact with colleagues from other countries, both in and out of Europe. In that way, I have already learned so much about the international market, but also about other ways of working. From time to time, I travel to meet colleagues abroad, which is always enriching. I’ve been to Malaysia for example, and soon, I’ll meet a colleague from the United States.”
Stan agrees: “It’s great to work with an experienced, international team with lots of know-how. Everyone has their opinion and it’s truly interesting to discuss our future plans. And seeing where our ideas lead to is inspiring as well.”
when searching for alternative bio-based resources.
“I have been working for the same category ever since I’ve started at Oleon, but of course it has evolved. I initiated the search for alternative, bio-based resources and got the freedom to implement them. An example of an innovative project I’ve worked on? Oleon has built a demonstration plant for enzymatic esterification, to help with future low-carbon chemical production. I was in charge of purchasing the raw materials for this.”
Purchasing Manager Stan works in his element ...
when expanding his knowledge and skills
“At Oleon, you can grow in all directions. You can switch functions or specialize in your own field. During my first years, I mainly evolved within my own category, learning more about raw materials, expanding the category, and so on. Two years ago, I went from Category Manager to Purchasing Manager. I got trained and guided in this new function and received clear targets. On the other hand, I had the freedom to find my own ways. Entrepreneurship really is the most important feature. If you want to go for it, you can achieve anything you want.”
