Mechanical Supervisor Steven manages a team of about 20 mechanics. Together, they make the installations at Oleon in Ertvelde run smoothly, with as little downtime as possible. Steven lives near the plant, so he already knew a lot of people working here and had heard good things about it. So last year, he decided to make the switch.
Mechanical supervisor Steven works in his element...
when facing new mechanical challenges every day.
“My workdays always have the same structure: morning brief, production planning, supervising ongoing tasks, safety meeting ... but the incidents that need to be resolved, are of course different every day. That’s what keeps it fresh. We do a lot of repairs ourselves, as opposed to some other companies. When we get notified of a problem, I decide whether it’s something for our own teams or has to be solved externally. The mechanical work we do varies, from fixing technical installations to elevator malfunctions or heating problems.”
when installations run smoothly.
“I feel satisfied when we fix an issue, together with the team. As a supervisor, I try to put everyone’s strengths to maximum use. When all these different characters and skills come together, we can do great things.”
when having fun with the team.
"I think it’s of great importance to motivate people in a positive way. To not only mention possible improvement, but also give compliments and celebrate successes. This helps to create a good atmosphere, in which people feel at ease. I also like to listen to my team’s suggestions, because they do the day-to-day work and know best what works well and what we could do better. Actually, this mindset counts for Oleon as a whole.”
